For voice-over artists

A read for a website video and a read for a TV campaign are not the same price.

Voice-over pricing depends on how the recording will be used: an internal training module, an online ad, a broadcast spot, a game, an audiobook. Direct clients often don't know that, and ask for 'a price for a two-minute script'. You quote a session fee, record, and later hear the read on a paid campaign it was never licensed for — or receive a revised script described as 'just pickups'.

ApeiroCraft sends the quote as a link with the session fee and the usage licence as separate lines, plus retakes, pickups versus script changes, file delivery and whether the session is directed. You see when it's opened and reopened, the client signs in the browser, and it's invoiced from the accepted quote.

Where voice-over work leaks value.

Usage that expands

A narration recorded for an explainer on the website ends up as a paid social ad, then on regional radio. Without a licence on paper, there's nothing to bill.

'Pickups' that are a new script

A changed word is a pickup. A rewritten paragraph after legal review is a new session. Without the distinction in writing, both get treated as free.

Directed sessions running long

A live-directed session with three stakeholders on the call takes twice as long as a self-directed read. A quote that didn't distinguish them can't cover it.

Quote, record, deliver, invoice.

Step 1

Session fee and usage, separate

Price the recording itself, then the licence — media, territory, term — on its own line, so the client sees what broader use would cost.

Step 2

See when the producer reads it

Opens and re-opens are recorded on the link. A quote reopened after a production meeting means a decision is close.

Step 3

Signed before you record

The signature records name, email, IP address and a UTC timestamp and can't be altered — the usage licence is on record.

Step 4

Invoice on delivery

Convert the accepted quote into an invoice in one click and send it with your own payment link when files are delivered.

What a voice-over quote has to include.

Union and agency work often comes with its own terms. For direct clients, these are yours to write.

Usage licence

If it's left vague

The read is used anywhere, forever.

With ApeiroCraft

State media, territory and term, and that other uses need a new licence.

Script length and finished minutes

If it's left vague

A longer script arrives on the day.

With ApeiroCraft

Base the quote on a word count or finished length, and say how longer scripts are priced.

Retakes, pickups and script changes

If it's left vague

Rewrites after approval are recorded for free.

With ApeiroCraft

Define a pickup (your error or a small change within a window) and price script changes.

Directed or self-directed

If it's left vague

A directed session runs long on a self-directed fee.

With ApeiroCraft

Say whether the session is directed and for how long.

Files and processing

If it's left vague

The client expects edited, mixed files in five formats.

With ApeiroCraft

List file formats, whether audio is edited or raw, and the delivery time.

  • Invoices in the client's currency, set per invoice.
  • Client record with every script, licence and past quote.
  • Your own payment link — no platform cut.

Common questions.

How do voice-over artists usually price direct work?

Common structures are a session or recording fee plus a usage fee that depends on media, territory and term; per finished minute or per word for narration and e-learning; per finished hour for audiobooks; and buyouts for broad usage. Rate guides published by industry groups exist, and many artists refer to them. ApeiroCraft doesn't set rates; it holds your structure.

What does a quote for an online ad look like?

A 30-second script; a self-directed session with two alternate reads; one round of pickups within a week; usage for paid social and online video in one country for a year; broadcast licensed separately; edited WAV and MP3 delivered within two working days. The producer reopens it after their production meeting, signs, and you invoice on delivery.

When is ApeiroCraft not the right fit for voice-over?

If most of your work comes through casting sites or agents who handle contracts and payment, you may not need it. ApeiroCraft doesn't host auditions, booking calendars or file delivery. It fits direct clients where you set the licence terms.

Can I offer a buyout as an option?

Yes. Show the standard licence and a buyout as separate lines. When the client confirms, adjust the invoice before sending.

How do I handle a renewal when the licence term ends?

Add a task on the client record for the licence end date, then send a renewal proposal. ApeiroCraft won't remind the client automatically, but the original signed terms sit on the record.

License the read, not just the recording.

Write your usage and pickup terms once and send them with every direct quote.
