Digital marketing proposal template

Clients buying digital marketing are buying a plan they can't fully evaluate. This template makes it legible: what's wrong now, which channels you'll prioritise and why, what ships each month, and how success will be measured.

The PDF is free and needs no account. Sending it as a link instead adds read tracking and a verified e-signature — free plan, no credit card.

What's in the template.

Every section below exists to answer a question your client is silently asking. Use the example copy as a starting point and replace the specifics.

  1. 1

    Where you are now

Three or four specific observations from their accounts or site. Specific beats comprehensive.

“Paid search spend is spread across 140 keywords, but 9 of them produce 80% of conversions. The newsletter has 6,200 subscribers and hasn't been sent since June. Product pages have no reviews shown.”
  2. 2

    Channel plan

Prioritise. Say which channels you'll focus on, which you won't, and why.

“Focus: paid search restructure and email. Second phase: content for the three highest-margin product lines. Not now: TikTok and display, until search and email are converting predictably.”
  3. 3

    Monthly deliverables

Name the outputs per month so the client can see the work, not just the results.

“Every month: paid search optimisation and a negative-keyword pass, 4 email campaigns, 2 product-led articles, 1 landing page test, and a 30-minute review call.”
  4. 4

    KPIs and reporting

Agree two or three KPIs and the reporting cadence up front.

“Primary KPI: cost per acquisition from paid search. Secondary: email revenue per send, organic sessions to product pages. Live dashboard plus a one-page monthly summary.”
  5. 5

    Investment

Retainer with an initial term. An optional one-off audit catches smaller budgets.

“Digital marketing retainer: $3,200 per month, 3-month initial term, ad spend billed separately at cost.”
  6. 6

    Next step

Sign, then onboarding access requests go out the same day.

“Sign below and we'll send the access checklist for your ad accounts, analytics and email platform today.”

Tips that win digital marketing work

  • Say which channels you're not proposing. It reads as judgment.
  • Keep ad spend separate from your fee, in writing.
  • Promise outputs and review points, never results.
  • Track when the proposal is opened; a second open is usually the decision-maker.

Digital marketing proposals, answered.

What goes in a digital marketing proposal?

A short audit of the client's current position, a prioritised channel plan, monthly deliverables, two or three agreed KPIs with a reporting cadence, the retainer price and term, and a simple next step. Ad spend should be listed separately from your fee.

How long should a digital marketing retainer be?

Three months is a common minimum initial term, because channel changes need time to show results. After that, month-to-month or a renewed term both work; say which in the proposal.
